Myrtus ugni
A small evergreen bush, native to Chile (as the name suggests), and also parts of Argentina.
Characteristics:
The leaves are small, glossy and dark green with new growth tinged red. Flowers are white, occurring in summer, followed by pea sized red berries. Best eaten fresh to appreciate their unique aromatic flavour, but can also be used to make jams & jellies. The leaves can also be used in tea!
An excellent hedging plant for your garden or food forest.
Suitable for pots.
Needs:
– Sun/Part Shade
– Cold Hardy
– Prefers moist, well drained soils.
– Tolerates extreme climatic conditions, but requires some protection from strong winds.
– Prune in early spring to maintain desired size & shape.
